A man who lives between Ste. Anne and Richer was woken up Monday morning when someone broke into his house.

Steinbach RCMP say they responded to the break and enter which occurred at a residence just south of Highway 1 on Road 40E. The man who lives in the house says he was woken up shortly after 8:00 A.M. by what he thought was the sound of snow falling off of his roof. He says when he heard footsteps he looked up and was shocked to see someone standing in the doorway to his bedroom. He notes the intruder appeared to be a young female wearing a black jacket with a fur-lined hood and a balaclava.

The man says the intruder fled the house as soon as he woke up, then drove off toward the Town of Ste. Anne in a silver pickup truck. He adds the frame around his front door was shattered from the break-in.

If you have any information regarding the break and enter you can contact the Steinbach RCMP Department.

Wood from the door frame can be seen on the ground in the front entrance
