The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba or IIU is asking the public for any information they may have regarding an incident last week. 

On October 5th, Steinbach RCMP reported an incident to the IIU that had occurred around 7 AM that same day.

According to this report, an adult male was detained by Steinbach RCMP officers and held in custody after being found blocking traffic and lying on the ground on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, the male was released from police custody at 5:30 AM. Within a few hours, RCMP responded to a report from EMS that the same adult male had been located in medical distress on the 100 block of Penfeld Drive in Steinbach. 

The man is currently receiving treatment at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.  

The civilian director of the IIU has determined it is in the public interest for them to investigate.

The investigation is ongoing so no further details will be provided at this time.
