Youth For Christ Steinbach hosted the Locals Only competition at the Steinbach Skate Park on Saturday afternoon alongside Business Board Shop.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place on September 16th but rain delayed the event until this weekend.

Ashley Reimer works for YFC and helped organize the event. She notes they have been doing the Locals Only competition for many years and it is a great way to bring everyone who uses the park on a regular basis together.

"We want to show off the talent of the youth who skate here, who have grown up in Steinbach or use our park frequently. It might not be on teams or anything but they still have a lot of talent that they want to showcase. Lots of the youth are here every single evening practicing. Whenever it is light out they are here."

Kyle Wiebe rode BMX in the competition. He says it is great to see so many people taking part.

"I have just been biking around here every day after work. A lot of the times we don’t all ride together but during times like this we all come together and it is a good time."

The competition includes skateboards, BMX’s, and scooters. Reimer says the crowd really gets into the competition and they cheer each other on. She notes considering the event was pushed back to September 30th, the weather was nearly perfect.
