The Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue and the Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue brought many of their animals to Pet Valu in Steinbach on Friday and Saturday for Adoption Days.

Michelle Neufeld is the President of Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue. She says on Friday the owner of Pet Valu Barry Peters held a charity barbecue lunch to kick off adoption days with all of the proceeds going toward the two rescues. She says they had many of their cats and a few of their dogs present at the event and the barbecue helped bring support to the event.

“It was a really good turnout, I came to the barbecue halfway through, it brought a lot of people in that normally probably wouldn't have come had there not been a barbecue. A lot of people came and said 'Oh we didn't know Steinbach had such', and we said 'well we are trying to get an actual building going so that we don't have to always rely on foster homes.”

Neufeld says those that were interested in adopting a pet were encouraged to fill out and application form. She notes they also encouraged people to apply to be a foster home for the shelter.

“We have an application on our website where they can apply to be a foster home as well. We would match a certain animal with a home or family that wants to foster. We provide all of the vetting, all of the food, all of the necessities the animals needs, they just have to provide the love and home.”

Neufeld says on Friday the Steinbach and area rescue brought their pets and on Saturday the Manitoba Great Pyrenees Shelter brought their dogs for adoption.
