A recount has been requested for Ward Four in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Senior Election Official Lois Gresiuk says incumbent Councillor John Giesbrecht requested the recount after yesterday's vote saw him lose to challenger Ed Penner by 40 votes. After the last ballot was counted, it showed Penner received 319 votes compared to Giesbrecht with 279.

"We are going to play easy with this one, we're just going to let the procedure go ahead quickly and promptly," explains Gresiuk. "Then we will be able to move ahead with whoever truly has won the Ward Four election for councillor."

Gresiuk says that recount could happen within the next hour.
