There are many things immigrants have to learn when they arrive in Canada, one item on the list is our laws.At a meeting Wednesday night in Steinbach, RCMP answered questions about the do's and don'ts in our country and the consequences of various actions.  Staff Sergeant Jake Hiebert says it was a really good night with many questions and a lot of enthusiasm to learn.  He notes many newcomers are quite surprised to see so many vehicles on the road that are in poor shape.  In countries like Germany, safety inspections are mandatory every few years, regardless of whether the car ownership has changed.  And in England, motorists are encouraged to keep vehicle registration and insurance papers at home, not in the glove compartment as is in Canada.  Another surprise for newcomers from Germany is the fact motorists here have to come to a complete stop when approaching a stopped school bus that has the red lights on and stop sign out.  In Germany, they just have to slow down and proceed with caution.
