Caden Unger stopped 21 shots and Brayden Delvecchio and Zach Friesen scored late in the third period as the defending Hanover-Tache Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Huskies beat the Lorette Comets 3-1 at the T.G. Smith Centre. Jamieson Krentz also scored for the Huskies while Justin Dumontier had the lone goal for the Comets. Lorette netminder Josh Buors stopped 26 shots. It was the first meeting of the season between the two teams who met in the 2011-2012 final.

 

Thistles 4 Selects 3

The Eastman Selects losing streak has reached six games. Eastman outshot Kenora 36-33 but dropped a 4-3 decision to the Thistles. Brody Anthony, Riley Welsh and Alex Tetrault did the goal scoring for the Selects. Kenora forward Brandon Pentek scored the winner with 3:31 remaining in the third period. Eastman goaltender Mario Petit stopped 30 of the 34 shots he faced. The Selects (1-6) will play a pair of road games this weekend. Eastman will face the Southwest Cougars in Souris on Saturday and meet the Wheat Kings in Brandon on Sunday.

 

Wheat Kings 3 Giants 2

Nick Buonassisi scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Vancouver Giants 3-2. Tim McGauley also scored for the Wheat Kings who snapped a three-game losing streak. Brandon goaltender Corbin Boes stopped 27 shots. The Wheat Kings will wrap up their seven-game road trip this weekend. Brandon will meet the Kamloops Blazers on Friday and the Prince George Cougars on Saturday. The Wheat Kings have recorded two wins, two losses and an overtime loss on the trip.
