The Superintendent for the Hanover School Division says enrollment for the coming school year is looking very good.

Randy Dueck says they budgeted for 8,184 students for this years and adds so far their current registration stands at 8,195. He notes that number could fluctuate when they find out if some families have moved out of the Hanover School Division catchment areas but says they’re still seeing growth in many of their schools.

"I think we continue to see the growth in Steinbach Mitchell and Niverville in particular," notes Dueck, "they’re driving, I would say, most of the growth in our school division right now."

Dueck adds they are ready to go and they are looking forward to a great year. "We’ve had a good summer and now we’re ready to go and we’ve got our sleeves rolled up, we’ve got two new assistant superintendents that are already hard at work for the coming school year, secretaries are back and we’re ready for business."

Dueck says in only one short year from now will the new Niverville High School be ready to open its doors. Dueck visited the site earlier this week and says he was excited to be able to say that he was standing inside the school.

"There are no ceilings anywhere yet so it’s all open to the clear blue sky but the walls are there and I was able to stand in some classrooms, look down hallways and things like that. Walls are certainly coming up fast right now so we’re feeling really good about the progress there."
