Steinbach had another strong month for housing starts in September. There were starts on four single-family homes, two duplexes plus an eight-unit multiplex and a nine-suite apartment block. City councillor Damian Penner notes it is the third consecutive month of significant housing starts.

"There have been 25 units added this month. That's about 20 per cent of our total, year-to-date. It's good to see growth in that area."

$3.6 million worth of building permits were issued in Steinbach in September, almost all of them for housing. There have been 118 housing starts in the city through the first three quarters of the year compared to 99 in the same period last year.

The value of all building permits in the first nine months of the year is just under $29 million compared to just over $30 million in that time frame in 2018.
