June is Stroke Awareness Month in Canada. It's been designated by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada to raise awareness of how devastating it can be and how it can be prevented. It's been reported more women die of stroke than men, but spokesperson Jackie Zalnasky cautions the data is new. She says the stats show middle-aged women seem to be a little more susceptible to a stroke. Zalnasky adds death and disability from stroke can be prevented, if you know the signs, and get appropriate treatment. She says blood pressure is the most important factor in preventing stroke and urges us to get checked every 2 years.
