The Rural Municipality of Hanover has a number of recreation projects being planned for 2022. There are projects in the works for each of their five communities.

In Mitchell, a skatepark is being planned for the Mitchell Park.

In New Bothwell, the plan is to relocate the existing outdoor rink.

In Grunthal, the municipality is planning for potential new soccer field development.

There are a few projects in the works for Blumenort. First of all, there are plans for a new washroom/ canteen and picnic shelter. The municipality is also looking at adding a disc golf course and a recreation hockey program for that community.

And finally, in Kleefeld, there are plans for a disc golf course and the potential for upgrades to their soccer field and tennis court. The municipality is also looking to offer story time programming in that community.

Meanwhile, Hanover Reeve Stan Toews says the municipality is also expecting to expand by two local urban districts in 2022. The municipality currently has local urban districts in Blumenort, Mitchell and Grunthal. Toews says the expectation is that New Bothwell and Kleefeld will be getting their urban district status sometime before the municipal election this fall.

"The significance of that is these urban districts can set their own mill rates for their transportation budget," explains Toews. "Depending on how extensive the services they want, there is some differences between our urban centres, some have a higher rate and some have a lower rate."

Also in 2022, Hanover will be looking at a study for Grunthal in regards to a wastewater force main from the lift station to the lagoon, while in Blumenort, the municipality will be reviewing its Industrial Services Agreement with Exceldor as it relates to effluent.
