The Rural Municipality of Hanover has completed three capital projects this summer, each one coming in under budget.

Rob Driedger is Manager of Engineering and Utilities. He says in June, they reconstructed Aspen Bay in Kleefeld. Their budget was $220,000 and the work ended up costing $208,000.

Then in late July and early August, crews rebuilt Centre Street South in Mitchell. Driedger says one mile was reconstructed beginning at Highway 52. The project was budgeted at $550,000 and came in around $490,000.

And then last week, asphalt overlay was done along Fernwood Way in New Bothwell. The municipality had a budget of $50,000 and spent $46,000.

The cost of these three projects was $744,000 which is about $76,000 under budget.

"I believe there was a lot of competition out there this year in regards to some of the projects specifically that were started earlier in the year," says Driedger. "So we saw some really good tender prices come in."

Driedger adds though the weather has been dry for crops in the area, it has actually been very good for street reconstruction. He notes everything went according to plan on the three projects.

Meanwhile, there is still one last project left to tackle. It involves building a block of sidewalk along Rockridge Drive, Flower Place and School Boulevard in Blumenort. Driedger says crews will begin just prior to the Labour Day weekend and should have things wrapped in two to three weeks.
