With fall yard cleanup now becoming a popular weekend pastime, the Rural Municipality of Hanover is once again hosting compost depots in its communities.

Until the end of October, depots will take place Mondays in New Bothwell, Tuesdays in Blumenort, Wednesdays in Kleefeld, Thursdays in Mitchell and Fridays in Grunthal.

Jason Peters is Manager of Recreation and Community Services. He says the depots are staffed to ensure only acceptable material is dropped off. Peters says they will not accept kitchen waste such as meat, fish, bones, eggs or dairy products. They also do not want pet waste or diseased plants. Peters says they will not accept extra large branches or tree stumps or plastics and metals.

Peters says though there is certainly a cost involved in hosting these depots, it is a worthwhile project as it encourages sustainable practices. And, he says there is slow growth from year to year in the amount that is collected from Hanover.

Compost depots are held on the following days:

Mondays: New Bothwell Community Club from 5 pm to 8 pm
Tuesdays: Blumenort Soccer Field from 5 pm to 8 pm
Wednesdays: Kleefeld from 5 pm to 8 pm
Thursdays: Mitchell Arena from 5 pm to 8 pm
Friday: Grunthal from 5 pm to 8 pm

Depots will also take place on September 28, October 12 and October 26 at the Mitchell Arena from 9:30 am to 3 pm.
