The total number of building permits rose by 13 to 114 in 2016 compared to 101 in 2015.

Building permit numbers had been on the decline since a high of 173 in 2013 and Reeve Lewis Weiss says it's good to see the growth start to pick up again.

"If you compare how our numbers were ten years ago, we're definitely looking better, even in our low years, but compared to our best time, things aren't looking as good. But it is now, again."

Single-family houses were as high as 72 in 2013 dropping to 52 in 2014, 28 in 2015, and then rising to 35 in 2016. The total value of building permits in 2015 was just over $11.2-million whereas in 2016 it reached almost $16-million.

Weiss adds the growth can be seen spread out fairly evenly throughout the municipality and he's looking forward to the continue growth in 2017.
