A superhero skate-a-thon was held at the Niverville arena Saturday afternoon from 2:15 until 4:15 pm.

Leslie Bardal says they launched a Can Skate program about three years ago, and as the town has grown, so have their skate programs. "We introduced Star figure skating as well as the Power skating club, and as the club has grown so have our costs."

Bardal says they came up with a skate-a-thon as an idea to bring together ringette players, hockey players, Can Skaters, and leisure skaters, for a fundraiser that would benefit the Can Skate program, as well as the upcoming multiplex.

The superhero-themed skate-a-thon brought in over 20 families and raised $1,174.00. "We offered prizes for best costume as well as door prizes. We were able to give cash prizes to the kids who worked so hard to collect those pledges because of our local sponsors."

Bardal notes, she hopes with more volunteers, they will be able to hold an annual skate-a-thon with games and skills competitions.
