Residents of southeastern Manitoba woke up Friday morning to the first widespread, killing frost of the season. Right across Southern Manitoba, temperatures dipped well below freezing for several hours ending the growing season for farmers and gardeners.

Here are some of the notable overnight lows, courtesy Environment Canada:

  • Dominion City -7.5 degrees
  • Emerson -7.5 degrees
  • Morris -7.5 degrees
  • Vita -7.5 degrees
  • Steinbach -7.3 degrees
  • Richer -7.3 degrees
  • Sprague -6.3 degrees
  • Pinawa -3.6 degrees
  • Whiteshell -3.6 degrees

The chilly temperatures are not expected to last long. Environment Canada is only calling for a high of 11 degrees for Steinbach on Friday, but then a high of 17 degrees for Saturday, which is warmer than normal for this time of year. The normal high for October 7th in Steinbach is 13 degrees, while the normal low is +2. 

Plenty of sunshine and highs peaking in the upper teens are expected through Tuesday.
