Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen is meeting with local councils to find out what they think about the hog moratorium. He was at the RM of Hanover Wednesday. Goertzen says councillors are sharing the same concerns as constituents and producers. He says there's a feeling of frustration, hopelessness and anger. Goertzen is also hearing of farmers from other jurisdictions who had thought of relocating to the southeast but have since reconsidered as a result of the uncertainty in the hog sector. Hanover reeve Stan Toews says there's a bad feeling among producers that if the province can impose a hog moratorium, what's stopping a beef or dairy moratorium in the future. Toews says many constituents and producers have more questions today than they had when the moratorium was first announced.
