The MLA for Steinbach feels this year’s provincial budget accurately reflects the desires of his constituents.

The Progressive Conservatives last week announced that their budget’s primary focus would be emergency preparedness. With COVID-19 pressures looming on all sides, Goertzen feels this was a smart move.

“No government is going to be able to meet every need that is going to come out of this pandemic, but I think that we are in a position, as good as any provincial government, to deal with the unexpected.”

Goertzen commends his party for their frugal managing of finances in recent years and says, in times like this, those decisions can really be appreciated.

The PC’s plan also prioritizes the reduction of taxes on entities like vehicle registration, home insurance, and salon services. Kelvin Goertzen expects those decisions will align with the values of most Steinbach ratepayers.

“Ultimately, when you look at a budget, you want to make sure that it is impacting as many people as possible in a positive way,” offers Goertzen. “People from Steinbach, Hanover, and southeastern Manitoba have always wanted the government to run their finances in the same way they run their own finances: a way that is responsible and forward-thinking. And I think this budget is reflective of all of those things.”
