The Academy of Learning held their graduation ceremony at Clearspring Centre on Friday.

Lewis Megaw, Manager at Academy of Learning in Steinbach, says they are celebrating graduates in their two main learning streams.

“We train for white collar office support, office admin, admin assistance, business administration. And then we also have a significant healthcare aide training program.”

The class has around 50 graduates, with 40 graduates in the healthcare aide stream.

Family and friends gathered and watched the graduates make their entrance.

Instructors gave presentations, with owner Ray Granger giving a commencement speech.

Graduates smiled and had their photos taken as they received their diplomas, and many were gifted flowers from their loved ones once the ceremony was complete.

Megaw says healthcare aides are always in demand.

“These are jobs you're never going to be out of work, that's the reality. As part of our program, we have a partnership with Southern Health, so we place folks in practicum for the last six weeks of their program at a personal care home.”

Practicum workplaces include Bethesda, Rest Haven, and Villa Youville in Ste. Anne

“Often times 95 per cent plus of our students have a job offer before they're finished.”

He offers his final words of encouragement for the graduating class of 2024.

“You're skilled, the big world's ready for you, go get em.”
