A fundraiser has been set up to help a family whose loved one was involved in a serious crash last week east of Deacon's Corner.

On Monday morning, Oakbank RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision that occurred on the Trans Canada Highway. It happened at the intersection of Settlers Road, which is about one mile east of Deacon's Corner.

Officers arrived on scene and located a single vehicle with extensive damage to the passenger side.

The 54-year-old male driver from the Rural Municipality of Tache suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway. Police believe that the second vehicle involved may have been a semi-trailer or a very large truck. The second vehicle did not stay at the scene.

According to RCMP, road conditions at the time of the collision were very icy and there was heavy fog in the area.

The 54-year-old is a volunteer firefighter for the Tache Fire Department. He is described by the department as "a local pillar and a dedicated volunteer firefighter."

According to the department, he faces a lengthy recovery, and their compassionate community has come together to initiate a fundraiser to assist his family with the impending financial burdens.

Ste. Genevieve Fire Hall is accepting cash donations to alleviate the family's expenses incurred due to lost income and the additional costs associated with being by their loved one's side during this challenging time. The department says public support is "invaluable in helping them navigate through this difficult period."

The Ste. Genevieve Fire Hall will be open for public drop-offs on Wednesday, December 13th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Donations can also be sent by e-Transfer to captainsteg@rmtache.ca

The department extends its deepest gratitude for any contributions that can be provided to aid in the family's time of need.
