A former resident of Steinbach, now living in Miami, Florida, says Hurricane Matthew did very little damage in the area where they reside. Terri St. Louis and her husband Jeremy live on the west side of Miami, away from the coast. She tells us, they were fortunate the hurricane stayed further out to sea .

"All of the coastal areas got the most wind damage or power knocked out due to the wind. We were far enough inland that it was pretty weak for us. But, for those on the coastal area and out by Orlando, which is three hours north of us, it's just going to kind of hug the coastline straight up into Georgia and veer back out to sea which is good."

In the days leading up to the hurricane's arrival, St. Louis says they took precautions to protect themselves and their home just in case the storm system were to suddenly change direction and move more inland. She says they purchased a generator, shuttered their windows and stocked up on food and water. But, she says they were lucky to be spared from the worst of the storm.

"It was just basically a rain storm. We're used to those down here so it was just like another day. Unfortunately, those communities north of us and countries south of us were absolutely devastated so we count ourselves extremely lucky that this big system decided to stay out to sea a little bit further than it was expected to."
