Statistics Canada released some interesting results about language. The results show that 20.6% of Canadians speak a non-official language in the home. These results are also seen in Steinbach. 1,730 people in Steinbach homes are speaking a language other the English or French. The most popular being German. However an interesting dialect came in second place with 215 speakers. Tagalog is a Filipino language that combines Spanish, Japanese and English.

Julius Narvaez from Eastman Immigrant Services says that he isn't surprised with the numbers. He adds that " there are a lot of new comers here from Germany, and there are also a lot of newcomers from the Philippines. I also know that there aren't a lot of French speakers in Steinbach. I really like these new statistics, Filipino's are making Steinbach their home. Its not just Winnipeg, its not just Toronto, its not just Vancouver. There are a lot of Filipino's who choose to make Steinbach their home and its nice, because Steinbach is a nice place".

He Notes that " a lot of newcomers that come to Canada, they spoke Tagalog in the Philippines. Now that they come here they still have that habit. At the same time it still has a lot to do with preserving culture and identity. Even though we have a new home and are embracing Canadian values we still want to keep a little bit of ourselves and that is Tagalog".

Narvaez adds that Philippine parents prefer to speak Tagalog to preserve the Filipino heritage with their Children.

Other Common non- official Languages spoken are Russian with 105 people, Spanish with 45 and Ukrainian with 25.
