The fall season might 3 months long, but the fall colours can be rather short here in southeast Manitoba with the leaves falling so quickly. So we have to make the most of the time we’ve got with the trees blowing up with colour! Where to go? Here are some suggestions to places to visit to see a full buffet of colour.

Out for a drive

Enjoy the fall colours from your car! Grab a coffee to go, jump in the car and head out in your car to see fall in colour on one of these routes!

  • Drive PR 210 from Marchand to Woodridge and then PR 203 to Zhoda.
  • Hwy 59 tour – head south from Ste Pierre and follow the highway and head north on PR 216.
  • Find a gravel road and just start driving!

Out for a walk

Grab your sneakers and get outside to enjoy the great outdoors in person. Breath in that crisp fall air and listen to the leaves crunching under your feet as you take a walk at one of these locations!

  • RM of Stuartburn – Prairie Shore Interpretive Walk or the Agassiz Interpretive Trail near the Weston Tall Grass Prairie Interpretive Centre
  • Sandilands- Head east of Marchand PR 210 and park at the Marchand Provincial Park picnic area and hit a trail. The Sandilands Ski Club has some great maps to view and use for your hike!
  • Tourond Creek Discovery Centre west of the Kleefeld turn off on Highway 52 is a great spot for a walk with a nice place for a picnic.  Check out a blog post highlighting the area.

On the water

It might not be swimming weather anymore, but the lake is still a great place to visit in fall.

  • Horseshoe Lake is a great spot to explore in the RM of Stuartburn. Located between Sundown and Menisino. Watch for the turnoff to the north. A nice walk in the woods with views of the lake.
  • The Beaver Pond in Marchand Provincial Park. See the fall colours and maybe some wildlife at the same time.
  • Senkiw Bridge Trail – want a walk in the woods, on the prairie and along the river? You’ve got it all in one spot! Here is a blog post talking about the trail.
  • Roseau River Park – pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful views along the Roseau River.
  • St Malo- You might not want to go for a float or swim in the lake, but you sure can enjoy the colours reflecting on the water at St. Malo Provincial park!
  • Moose Lake Provincial Park - a beautiful drive down Highway 12 through the fall colours to the lake where you can enjoy the water and trails.

On the pathways

Our local urban areas have some great pathways to wander and enjoy the fall colours.

  • Steinbach - Pathway around LA Barkman Park and the soccer fields
  • La Broquerie – Tetrault Park
  • Ste Anne - Redemptorist Park
  • Grunthal - Grunthal Centennial Park

However you get out to see the fall colours, enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of fall!
