RCMP report a dangerous situation was averted overnight in Tyndall, which is 65 kilometres north of Steinbach.

At 9:15 Thursday night, they were notified that a vehicle had struck a metallic shed that houses a natural gas distribution centre in the town and gas could be heard leaking. Police and fire personal could not get close to the vehicle due to safety concerns. By 3:30 Friday morning, the gas leak was made safe and emergency officials approached the vehicle. The occupants had fled. The vehicle was later reported stolen.

Investigators say it appears the vehicle had been travelling north on Road 35 east, crossed through a ditch and smashed into the shed, rupturing a gas line.

Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact Beausejour RCMP at 204-268-2612.
