Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Southeast, saying a major winter storm is developing over the western United States and is tracking across the Dakotas, and will intensify as it heads towards Manitoba. The widespread system is bringing with it precipitation, in the way of freezing rain Monday, then changing over to snow later in the day and into Tuesday.

Total snowfall from this system will range from 5 cm in southeastern Manitoba to 30 cm or more in a large swath from the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border.

In addition, winds will be increasing Monday into the night, with areas of blowing snow and poor visibility in open areas. Travel will become hazardous and blizzard conditions are possible.

Environment Canada says, due to the uncertainty of the exact track and intensity of the system, the public should monitor forecasts as this system develops.
