Student enrollment in Red River Valley School Division has declined.

Superintendent Kelly Barkman says total enrollment this fall has dropped by about 30 students. Barkman says it's not something to be overly concerned about. "I think we need to continue to look at it and monitor it and we have projections for a number of years.  But we've been quite steady, give or take a few students, for the last 6 years. So this dip, we knew was coming, but we still have to monitor it. Worrisome, no, but we do have to keep on top of it," said Barkman.

The biggest decline in student numbers was in schools in Morris, down about 20 students. There were also minor decreases at Sanford and Oak Bluff.

Meanwhile, schools in the division offering French language education seem to be doing well in terms of student numbers. St. Malo school, which offers a dual track program, has increased about 7 or 8 students, while the numbers at Heritage School in St. Pierre have also gone up slightly.

Total enrollment in Red River Valley School Division is just over 2000.
