A group of 20 young people from the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church youth group took off from their parking lot at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

They drove down to Chicago and are now serving in many way in the downtown area. Jori Dueck, Director of Youth Ministry at the church, chatted with AM1250's Michelle Sawatzky and told her that they will be partnering with an organization called CSM (City Service Mission) serving at VBS's, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, just reaching out to the marginalized in Chicago. They also hope to have the young people learn about the city and what inner city is like. The goal for the group is that their hearts will be opened to see how Jesus sees other people and that it wouldn't just be about the 10 days of serving in Chicago but that they would bring back what they learn to Steinbach and to love people like Jesus did here at home as well. We certainly wish them safety, courage and an amazing learning experience.

Making a difference around the world from right here in southeastern Manitoba -- what a great opportunity!

You can listen to Jori and Michelle's entire conversation in the AM1250 Audio Vault.
