Elmdale students sing "O Canada"

It was the play of the game for a group of grade six students from Elmdale School in Steinbach.  Music Teacher Louise Redekop says the group was asked to be part of Friday night's Winnipeg Blue Bomber game.

"I got an email last spring inviting the group to sing the national anthem so we accepted the invitation.  It was absolutely awesome.  The kids were excited and it was a great experience."

Student Magdel was so excited she felt sick.  "My favourite football player was right behind me and it was so amazing.  When you really think about it it's crazy because you're standing in the middle of a football field and I've never done that.  It looks like a rainbow with all those colours."

Vanessa describes her experience on the field.  "At first I was really nervous and I thought I would forget the words but we actually did quite good I think."

Tich was also nervous.  "I was really excited to sing.  To get ready for this we sang a lot (in school) and sang at our assembly and outside.  When the whole crowd started cheering I felt really happy."

Other students recall feeling excited to be able to high five some of the players and have an opportunity to become part of the game.
