You may have received a pamphlet in the mail recently from Elections Manitoba.

They want to make sure that you are registered to vote in this year's provincial election on September 10, 2019.

Allison Mitchell of Elections Manitoba says in the last couple of years they've been starting to develop a permanent voter registry.

"We used to do province-wide door-to-door enumeration and now we maintain a permanent voters list," says Mitchell. "The basis of that list was the 2016 general election and we have information-sharing agreements with several government agencies to help keep us updated."

You must be registered with Elections Manitoba to vote, but Mitchell says most Manitobans will already be on the list.

"The reason that we're encouraging people to check to see if they're registered, or to register is we're trying to make sure (the list) is as complete as possible," says Mitchell. "If people have moved, they can update their information with us. It's quite possible we'll have that information already but because we want that voters list to be as complete and accurate as possible, we're encouraging voters to check."

To vote in this year's provincial election you must be 18 years of age, be a Canadian citizen, and have lived in Manitoba for 6 months. To register, you can visit the Elections Manitoba website.
