Coffee drinkers in Steinbach are helping send eight kids to camp this year.

Wednesday was Tim Hortons Camp Day. Andrew Heidebrecht, who owns the four locations in Steinbach, says they raised more than $11,400. That tops last year's total and is nearly an all-time high for Steinbach.

Heidebrecht says eight children from the southeast will now get to experience a Tim Hortons camp in North America. A combination of boys and girls will be going from our area.

"It means a lot to know that the community backs the cause to send these children who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to experience what they do in camp," says Heidebrecht.

He says over the years he has heard firsthand feedback from parents and children of how much camp means to them and the impact it had on their lives.

"And quite frankly how it changed the direction and the path that they were on for life," says Heidebrecht. "When the community comes forward and participates in that, it means a lot to us as a team in Tim Hortons and to the campers and the parents."

Camp Day is about more than just proceeds from coffee sales going to the cause. There are numerous other ways of making a donation, including through silent auctions and window washing. Heidebrecht says a big thank you to the community and to businesses who donated prizes.
