Schools all across Hanover recognized Remembrance Day on Friday by canceling some classes and attending special assemblies instead.

Schools including Stoneybrook, Clearspring, and Mitchell Middle had students sing songs, recite perform skits and recite the traditional poem “In Flanders Field”.

The SRSS held two assemblies in which Drama, Band, and Choir classes reflected on the cost of war through their respective art forms.

“Many people think that Remembrance Day is a way of celebrating war, says Grade 12 student-presenter Cassidy Choquette, “but we are not trying to focus on violence and celebrate wars; we are honoring those who lost their lives for us and sacrificed everything.”
