A driver has been charged with multiple offences after attempting to flee from Police.

On Tuesday, July 5th at approximately 6 PM, while conducting speed enforcement on Highway 12 near the Town of Ste. Anne, Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a White Honda Civic that was travelling at 120km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for Police and then accelerated to over 200km/h and began passing vehicles on the gravel shoulder while fleeing. Police immediately abandoned the traffic stop due to concerns for public safety and the safety of the driver.

However, officers were able to identify the vehicle utilizing the Automatic Licence Plate Reader that the Police vehicle is equipped with.

The registered owner of the vehicle was charged with numerous offences under The Highway Traffic Act totalling $2,949 in fines and was served a Serious Offence Notice for a review of their driver's licence with MPI.

St. Anne Police would like to remind the public that it is a serious offence to flee from Police and you could face criminal charges for failing to stop. Officers have the resources and tools to identify vehicles that do not stop when required to. It is not worth putting your life and other lives at risk.

If anyone has any information on the aforementioned incident, we encourage you to contact the Sainte-Anne Police Service at 204-422-8209.
