During the summer months many curling club members are volunteering their time to tackle various repairs and renovation projects. Some local facilities recently received good financial news, in the form of grants, from The Manitoba Curling Development Fund, which is administered by Curl Manitoba. Executive Director Shane tells us it was announced this week that 21 Manitoba curling clubs applied for grant money, and 17 clubs were allocated funds.
Ray explains why so many clubs need the extra help in the form of money. Ray notes now is the time for much of the hands on work, so quick turnaround time is key for the application and allocation process. He says due to the parameters of the development fund only 50 thousand dollars can be handed out annually, and the fund will hopefully be replenished after hosting the Olympic trials in Manitoba in 2013.
He says the fund has been a great opportunity for volunteer run organizations with tight budgets and shares how the fund has changed since it's inception.
This year 21 applications were received requesting $143,132.58. This brings the total number of requests to 98 and the total amount requested to $687,589.98 over the last 4 years. Over the past 4 years CurlManitoba has distributed $202,804.00 to 62 Manitoba curling club projects.
