Steinbach, the R.M. of Hanover and the rest of the southeast are under an extreme cold warning.

Environment Canada says we should expect multiple days of very cold wind chills of -40 to -55.

An arctic air mass is bringing dangerously cold temperatures to the area now through Tuesday. The extreme cold, combined with winds of 15 to 30 km/h, will result in wind chill values ranging from -40 to -55 at times over the coming days.

This mass of cold air has already been breaking cold records across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Including some communities hitting lows of -45 with the windchill driving temperatures to feel colder than -50.

Environment Canada says extreme cold puts everyone at risk while adding some cautionary tips.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
