Both the NDP and Progressive Conservatives have opted to get a jump start on the upcoming election, by announcing their party platforms. The writ hasn't even been dropped, and voters are faced with an influx of information to dissect.

Kelly Saunders, Political Science Professor at Brandon University, says the danger of releasing campaign plans so early, is losing the interest of voters, ultimately leading to lower turnouts at the polls.

She notes it's not surprising the NDP are playing it safe, and not throwing in any wild cards to disrupt voter confidence.

Saunders adds it is surprising the Progressive Conservatives are also taking a safe approach, distancing themselves from the darker days of the Filmon administration.
