The parks and playing fields in Steinbach have come out of winter in pretty good shape.

Russ Dyck with the Parks and Recreation Department says it was a late start to spring but roads have re-opened through the parks and there is a lot of space for the public to access.

A.D. Penner Park has many features including one regulation baseball diamond, four softball diamonds, and one softball diamond has lights to accommodate night games.

"We do have fields available for use for teams that are practicing,” he says. “That can be scheduled. They’re not very dry obviously, but useable. Not at a point where it would be doing too much damage at this point, but it depends on how much rain we get this week.”

Dyck encourages us to get out while the weather is nice and enjoy the outdoors while we can.

“We’ve had a long winter, a long couple of years,” he says, urging us to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

We can find over 21 parks in Steinbach along with approximately 20 pocket parks.

Dyck says the parks are turning green with all the rain and warmer weather. He hopes the rainy weather will pause for a while to allow the ground to dry up. If the rain continues, that could impact the condition of our parks.

A track for BMX enthusiasts is open at A.D. Penner Park, off Park Road East. The 900-foot track has some impressive features including a starting hill, four 180 degree turns, and roller and double jumps. The track is open to the public during regular park hours. This is an unsupervised facility and caution is advised. Use of appropriate safety equipment is recommended.
