Steinbach city council has decided to use the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce slogan, "More For You Here". The city has received permission from the chamber of commerce to do so. Mayor Chris Goertzen says councillors discussed the matter at a committee meeting this week and feel it makes more sense to adopt this slogan than to develop a new one.

"Council really wants to work together with the chamber of commerce and we want to have a unified slogan that we promote the city with, that we promote what's going on in our city, not only to our residents but to people outside. Council felt it didn't want to duplicate that by creating another slogan. They wanted to partner with the chamber of commerce and use the "More For You Here" slogan because there is more for you here, whether you live here or whether we want you to live here."

The city administration cautioned that there can be risks in using another organization's slogan because the two groups have some differing objectives and target audiences. For example the chamber of commerce is focused only on business whereas the city caters to all citizens. It also says two organizations using the same slogan can cause confusion and make it ineffective. Goertzen says city councillors took those concerns into account in making their decision.

"There are always risks and they did identify some of the risks involved in using a slogan that is used by other organizations. At the same time, council felt that, despite those risks, there are are a lot of rewards available to us, working together with the chamber of commerce, promoting our city collectively."

City council has asked the administration to draft a policy on how, where and when the slogan will be used.
