Some street light posts along Main Street in Steinbach are taking on a new look. The city is putting up metal structures representing sheaves of wheat and machine sprockets which are parts of the city's logo, intended to represent agriculture, business and industry. Mayor Chris Goertzen says they started this project in 2015 at the Plaza along Elmdale Street and are now continuing it on Main Street between Friesen and Lumber Avenues.

"Council continues to want to see the city beautified and we have a great Plaza behind the credit union, by the arena and we have a beautiful Main Street and we wanted to continue to do that."

The city is installing 22 of the icons along Main Street at a cost of about $23,000. Goertzen says they are leaving the door open to adding more in the future.

"These are happening now on a few blocks of Main Street. If we like what we see, we'll continue that in the future. But for now, we want to see what this looks like and how it benefits the look and the aesthetic of the city and then well move from there."
