The Kinsmen Daycare Centre in Steinbach has been denied permission to build an 8 foot high fence.
It wants to build a fence along the west side of its property at 462 Reimer Avenue after neighbors complained about noise.  It asked council for a variation beyond the city's 6 foot height limit on fences.  But council voted 4-3 against the idea.  Mayor Chris Goertzen says the majority of council wants to stick with the city's bylaw and feels a 6 foot high fence should accomplish the desired goal.  Councillors Art Rempel and Michael Zwaagstra spoke in favour of the daycare's proposal noting there were no objections from neighbors and higher fence would not be out of place there.
