Map showing location of the apartment block

A developer has received the okay from Steinbach city council to build an apartment block on the north side of Chrysler Gate at South Park Drive. The plan is for a three storey-15 suite building.

Deputy Mayor Michael Zwaagstra moved approval of the By-Law to rezone the property. "Certainly when we're looking to rezone land to medium density to allow a possible apartment building, we want it to be on a major street such as a collector street. Chrysler Gate is such a street. It's in a logical location to have this type of development. An additional benefit is, when this land is developed, Chrysler Gate would be extended, it would be paid for by the developer so that's another benefit of allowing the rezoning to go ahead."

Councillor Earl Funk seconded the motion. "There were no objections so I feel that the neighbourhood is in compliance with us. I think it's a great place to put it. It's close to schooling, the existing town houses there will be very close in height to the apartment."

Developer Russ Dueck of Winnipeg says he is in no hurry to start construction noting he'd prefer to wait until Chrysler Gate has been extended further east.
