It’s a strong start to the year for the Pat Porter Active Living Centre in Steinbach with the return of community events and taking over the city’s transit program.

Executive Director Audrey Harder says it feels great to have the monthly pancake breakfasts return because it invites the community to come inside and share a meal and conversation.

“We’re going to try to do this as much as possible,” she says. “Community events like our pancake breakfasts do so much to raise spirits, and really give the feeling that we are not alone, in whatever we’re going through.”

Harder notes there are times when people bring their musical instruments to the breakfast and provide some entertainment. The breakfast also serves as a fundraiser to support the Meals on Wheels program.

The Pat Porter Active Living Centre will officially take over the program as of Tuesday, February 1st.

Cathy Jago has been hired to co-ordinate this operation and will begin in her new role in a couple of weeks.

Until then, Harder will focus on making sure the transition period goes as smoothly as possible.

She says there won’t be any changes right now, except that the transit team is growing.

So, people will notice a few new faces.
