Starting Friday, Manitoba's automotive industry will be allowed to set rates for vehicle safety inspections.

That is one of many regulations announced today by the province in the new Traffic and Transportation Modernization Act which takes effect Friday. Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler says this is part of the government's commitment to reducing red tape.

Other regulations in the act include giving municipalities the authority to set or change speed limits on municipal roads and enable municipalities to improve efficiency in snow removal by allowing 24hour unsigned parking bans if public notice is provided.
