For the first time in the regular season, the Steinbach Pistons did not pick up a point in a game falling 2-1 to the Selkirk Steelers in regulation on Saturday night.

Coming off a shootout loss the night before, the Pistons came out strong and used their speed to generate a few chances but couldn't open the scoring.

Along with a better effort on the offensive side, it also limited the chances against as the Steelers spent little time in the Pistons end. However, despite only managing 3 shots in the first period, the Steelers managed to score the lone goal.

Travis Hensrud looked like he was going to tie the game as a rebound came right to him in the slot but he was robbed by the Selkirk goalie, a stunning glove save that left Hensrud looking up at the ceiling.

It remained 1-0 Selkirk after the first.

In the second, it was Rylan Bettens who was left shaking his head as he had a wonderful chance in front off a broken play but somehow, the puck managed to hit something in front instead of going into the open net.

After a strong shift in Selkirk territory, the Steelers quickly transitioned and a stretch pass sprung them loose on a breakaway where they made it 2-0.

Steinbach's lifeless power play finally found a heart beat as after going on a 0-21 stretch, Matt Osadick converted to cut the lead in half 2-1. Codey Behun and Bettens had the helpers on the much needed man advantage goal.

In the third, Steinbach did all they could to break through the defensive wall built by the Steelers who stacked all five players in the neutral or defensive zone for almost the entire third period.

Despite wave after wave, Steinbach couldn't get the equalizer and as the horn sounded, Selkirk managed to hold on for a 2-1 win.

Simon Harkness played well in the crease for Steinbach making 14 saves including a couple of good, in tight ones while short handed.

The power play finally got on the board going 1-3 while the penalty kill was 2-2.

Shots finished 34-16 Steinbach.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night in Steinbach. There will be an off day on Saturday before a Sunday evening date back in Selkirk. Both games will be on MIX 96 and SteinbachOnline.com with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm and puck drop at 7:30 pm.
