"The pain of losing a son and news that the second son wasn't doing good at all is numbing."

plications.

Guenther and his wife, Sonja, from Steinbach found out they were pregnant with identical twins with TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome) earlier this year. At 23.5 weeks gestation, the Guenthers had their two sons. Both Levi and Lucas weighed just over one pound when they were born.

Lucas developed a brain bleed and died on May 9. His twin, Levi, has dealt with many significant medical concerns over the past month.

Guenther says his son was doing amazing until they found out he had an infection in his main line. This caused him to become very sick and swollen. Levi was started on antibiotics for the infection. A follow-up was done on Levi by doctors on Tuesday.

"They did a follow-up ultrasound to see if there were any blood clots that might have been caused by the antibiotics he was receiving," Guenther says.

The doctors found air bubbles outside his intestines, a condition known as NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis), a common and severe intestinal disease found in premature babies.

"Doctors say if they didn't find he had NEC today it was likely he wouldn't have made it until the weekend," Guenther says, "so we thank God for the follow up on his stomach and that the doctors were able to catch it!"

But the Guenthers are praying desperately that Levi will be able to recover from his latest complication.

"From recently losing our son Lucas to being told our other son is very very ill is by far the hardest thing to process," Guenther says.

The family is asking for prayer for their son's recovery.

"Me and my wife are in a time where we don't know what to even really say, it's so much to take in," Guenther explains. "Keep our son in your prayers."
