Border Land School Division continues to put out the fire surrounding the Ally card issue at Ecole West Park School in Altona. Parents have raised concerns regarding the cards, which have been posted in two grade 5 classrooms, and include wording that supports alternate lifestyles. Superintendent Krista Curry outlines how the division has responded. "Since that was noticed by a parent before Christmas, we've consulted and had discussions at multiple levels and, at this point, the senior administration and the school principal have asked those teachers to remove the wording from below the Ally banner. They can keep the Ally banner up and when kids ask what that's about, they can answer in an age appropriate way about what an Ally is and what the word Ally stands for."

Curry adds there has been no specific delegation to the Board of Trustees at this point looking for a Board decision on the matter, however says she's heard through the grapevine something is in the works.

Curry adds, going forward, Senior Administration will continue to have dialogue, noting this is bigger than just one school and is something that needs to be addressed as an entire Division. She says the goal is to continue to keep a focus on supporting and accepting and making all kids feel safe in Border Land schools.
