Two men from Steinbach, Jessie Reimer and Michael Girardin, were recognized by the Lifesaving Society of Manitoba after they pulled a woman named Teresa from the icy waters of the Red River in Selkirk in 2019. The two received a Rescue Commendation on February 3rd.

A couple who is used to travelling abroad every winter garnered attention when they found an unusual way to adjust to pandemic restrictions. Rather than driving their RV to Texas as they normally do, they decided to park it in an airplane hanger just outside of Steinbach.

A number of Manitoba churches and individuals banded together to take the province and Dr. Brent Roussin to court over pandemic restrictions. The Chief Justice in charge of the case would later uphold Manitoba’s lockdown policies in his ruling in October.
