Steinbach City Council has turned down a request for a 4-way stop at the corner of Ellice Avenue and Giesbrecht Street.
A homeowner on Ellice Avenue wrote council to say all the new housing in the area has created a huge increase in traffic and it asked for more stop signs.  But councilor Michael Zwaastra moved to deny.  He says a traffic count study by staff found the current 2-way stop is meeting all the criteria of the city's policy.  For example, Zwaagstra says the average wait time at the stop signs is 15 seconds or less.  Policy stipulates it must be 30 seconds or more to warrant consideration of a 4-way stop.
