With 400 food hampers going out every two weeks through South East Helping Hands, every donation makes a difference.
And Thursday’s donation to the food bank will go a long way toward helping families in Steinbach and area.
HyLife teamed up with Earl’s Meat Market to turn 2,035 pounds of premium pork into 1,600 sausage rings.
Earl Funk says they’re happy to help do what they can to support the community.
“We’ve been given a gift to make food and we think it’s important that we make sure that everyone has food at Christmas time,” says Funk.
"This collaboration with Earl's Meat Market means more families and those struggling this season will be able to fill their fridges with protein, which is often in high demand at food banks," says Sheldon Stott, Senior Director of Corporate Sustainability, HyLife. "Together, we can always make a bigger impact."
Meanwhile, Kevin Barkman, Senior Vice President at HyLife, says they recognize that it has been a difficult year financially for many people with rising grocery prices, interest and inflation. So, the company’s motto this year was to “Give what you can, every little bit counts.”
In its third annual HyLife Holiday Helpers company food drive, employees, and leaders from across operations generously donated thousands of non-perishable items to local food banks.
“We were absolutely overwhelmed with the response. So that part of the program brought in more people donating than we've ever had before and greater amounts of donated food than we've ever had before on the non-perishable side. So, it was a super exciting and we're super proud of our team and proud of the fact that we really executed on one of our core values which is being great community partners.”
Donation bins were set up at all locations HyLife operates, says, Barkman, to make it easier for all employees to give what they could.
Along with supporting South East Helping Hands in Steinbach, food donations were also made at food banks in Neepawa, Killarney, Virden, and Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
