Southern Manitoba is being hit by a winter storm.

Eric Dykes with Environment Canada says as of eight o'clock Friday morning, parts of eastern Manitoba had received up to 50 millimetres of rain, while parts of western Manitoba had received 20 centimetres of snow.

According to Dykes, Steinbach seems to be the boundary of the snow/rain line. Dykes says areas west of Steinbach could receive an additional 10 to 20 centimetres of snow Friday, while areas to the east could get another 20 millimetres of rain.

Dykes says the Colorado Low is moving up very slowly and will pivot over the Lake of the Woods area, producing very strong winds across southern Manitoba. In Steinbach, winds are expected from the north at 50 to 70 kilometres per hour.

By midnight, he says the precipitation should be falling in the form of drizzle with wind speeds diminishing to 30 kilometres per hour as the low weakens.
