Walnut Avenue in Mitchell is expected to be under construction for the next two to three weeks.

Rob Driedger is Manager of Engineering and Utilities for the Rural Municipality of Hanover. He explains reconstruction work will take place along the three block stretch from Third Street to Centre Street North.

Crews will be putting in land drainage sewer along the north side of Walnut Avenue. Following that, they will do some boulevard upgrades, followed by construction of a concrete sidewalk. The last phase of the project will be to add an asphalt overlay to the street.

Driedger says weather permitting, they will begin the work on Monday, August 26th. He notes with good weather conditions the project should take two to three weeks to complete.

"We're just asking motorists to be patient," says Driedger. "There should not be a full closure of the road."

The municipality is encouraging local traffic only. He adds there may be some temporary delays while construction takes place.

The work is being done by Bituminex Paving of Winnipeg, with Southwood Ventures of Grunthal being the subcontractor. The tender price came in at just under $300,000.
